Common use

Ultravate is used to relieve inflammation, redness, itching, and discomfort caused by skin conditions such as psoriasis, atopic dermatitis, and other corticosteroid-responsive dermatoses. It works by suppressing the immune response in the affected skin area.

Dosage and direction

Apply a thin layer of Ultravate to the affected area once or twice daily, as directed by your healthcare provider. Use only on intact skin and avoid covering the treated area with bandages unless instructed. Do not apply on the face, groin, or underarms unless specifically prescribed.

Precautions

Avoid long-term use, especially on large skin areas, as it may increase the risk of systemic absorption. Inform your doctor if you have a history of skin infections, diabetes, immune disorders, or if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Avoid contact with eyes and mucous membranes.

Contraindications

Do not use Ultravate if you are allergic to halobetasol or other corticosteroids. It is contraindicated on infected, ulcerated, or severely damaged skin, as well as in patients with rosacea or acne.

Possible side effect

Common side effects include burning, dryness, irritation, itching, or redness at the application site. Long-term use may lead to skin thinning, stretch marks, discoloration, and hormonal effects. Rare but serious effects include adrenal suppression or worsening of untreated infections.

Drug interaction

Since Ultravate is used topically, systemic interactions are rare. However, using other corticosteroid products may increase the risk of side effects. Inform your doctor about all topical or systemic medications you are using.

Missed dose

If you miss a dose, apply it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for the next application, skip the missed dose. Do not apply extra amounts to make up for the missed dose.

Overdose

Excessive or prolonged use can cause systemic corticosteroid effects such as adrenal suppression, weight gain, or skin thinning. Seek medical advice if you suspect overuse.

Storage

Store Ultravate at room temperature, away from heat, moisture, and direct sunlight. Keep the tube or bottle tightly closed and out of reach of children.
